Ekiti State Government has assured that it would adequately compensate landlords of houses with approved building plans but marked for demolition in flood prone areas of the state capital.
The State Commissioner for Housing, Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr. Remi Olorunleke gave the assurance while supervising the demolition exercise at Nova Area in Ado-Ekiti.
Mr. Olorunleke urged people of the state to take a cue from the current urban renewal programme of the present administration and ensure that they follow every necessary steps required before embarking on construction of any structure.
He charged the affected landlords to vacate their buildings and remove their valuables before the exercise get to their door steps.
The Commissioner who frowned at the negligence of some landlords, said that all the affected people have been served a notice of demolition more than three weeks ago adding that his Ministry has also embarked upon a series of sensitization programmes on roadio and television.
He however commended the landlords that have complied with the directives, stressing that government will ensure protection of trees
and property of its citizenry.
Olorunleke promised that the state government would not relent in its effort to make life meaningful for the people.
