Ekiti State House of Assembly has passed the State land Use ChargeBill, 2012 which seeks to make provision for the consolidation of all Land based rates and charges payable in Ekiti State under the Land Rates Law.
The House, at its plenary in Ado Ekiti, also passed the Urban and Regional Planning and Development (Amendment) Law, 2013 and committed the State Public Works Corporation (Amendment) Law, 2013 to the House Committee on Works and Transport for further action.
Chairman of the House Committee on Lands, Housing and Environment, Hon. Kayode Fasakin, whose committee’s report was approved by the house, said the passage would ensure that Land owners pay charges to the government on acquired Land.
Hon. Fasakin said the move will also ensure an increase in the internally generated revenue of the state.
The amendment of the Urban and Regional Planning and Development bill also received the approval of the lawmakers, due to its expected contribution to the development of urban areas in the state.
All the lawmakers remarked that the amendment would sustain the current urban development efforts of the state government.
Meanwhile, the budget estimates of the sixteen councils in the state have been presented to the House for approval.
The bill on the budget successfully passed through the first reading at the House Plenary in Ado Ekiti.
