The Ekiti State National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Commander, Mr. Bamidele Akingbade has commended the state government on its efforts at ensuring an illicit drug-free state.

Mr. Akingbade gave the commendation at a sensitization workshop organised by the State Government for Patent Medicine Dealers in the three senatorial districts in the state on the sale of Tradeidole, cough syrup with codeine and the local plant called ‘Gegemu’.

Expressing appreciation to the state government for its support for the agency, the NDLEA Commander explained that the workshop was designed to educate the people on the inherent dangers in the distribution and usage of fake and illicit drugs.

Using Tramedol tablet as an example of controlled drugs, he said that only licensed pharmacists are supposed to dispense such drugs under strict prescription of a certified medical doctor, emphasizing that patent medicine stores are not allowed to handle controlled drugs under any circumstance.

Meanwhile, the Ekiti State Patient Medicine Dealer Association has expressed their willingness to partner with the state government in
making Ekiti drug free.
Speaking in a letter signed by the president of the Ekiti State Chapter of the Association, Mr. Tunde Oke, they expressed gratitude to the State Government for organising the sensitization workshop for them.

The Patent and Medicine Dealers commended the State Command of the NDLEA for regulating sales and consumption of illicit drugs in the state. The association however called for more and regular sensitization workshop to further enlighten patient medicine dealers across the state.
