Fajuyi’s Wife To Get A Befitting Burial – Gov

Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi has disclosed that the State Government and the family of late former Military Governor of Western Region, Lt Colonel Adekunle Fajuyi are  planning a befitting burial for the wife of the late hero, Madam Eunice Fajuyi who passed on last week.

The Governor made this known during a condolence visit to the deceased’s family in Ado Ekiti on Monday.

Dr. Fayemi said the Fajuyi matriarch deserved a befitting burial for keeping the legacies of the late Military Governor whom he said represented the true values Ekiti people are known for, especially the integrity and loyalty which Fajuyi displayed during the coup that claimed his life and that of then Military Head of State, General Thomas Aguiyi- Ironsi.

He added that the late Fajuyi lived a life of service and courage under the difficult circumstance which could have snowballed into betrayal if he had not laid down his life for the unity of the nation.

“We thank God for the family of Fajuyi. The family is a source of pride for us in Ekiti. I am sure you all know that the late Military Governor represented everything that Ekiti people are associated with: integrity, courage, compassion”, he said.

The Governor lauded the late matriarch for keeping faith and choosing to stay with the family in her prime, maintaining the legacies of the late Fajuyi for 47 years; adding that she could have given up and abandoned the family after the 1966 incident.

Fayemi recalled that he had planned to visit the deceased last week before he had of her demise.

He also commended the late Madam Fajuyi for being a good custodian of the Fajuyi Museum built and inaugurated by the National Leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

“This is not a private family situation so it will not be left with them alone to manage the funeral arrangements for mama. The Government has a role to play and we will do everything we consider befitting to honour the memory of our late mother”, Governor Fayemi said.
