Nigerian youths have again been reminded to see themselves as future leaders and imbibe the spirit of national unity as they gradually prepare to take over leadership responsibilities.
Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, who gave the youths the wake-up call, said the younger folks have a role to play for Nigeria to accomplish its developmental goals and remain one indivisible nation.
He gave this charge through his deputy, Prof Modupe Adelabu at the closing of the 2013 Batch ‘B’ Orientation Course for the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) members at the NYSC Permanent Camp at Ise/ Orun, Emure –Ekiti.
Noting that the future of any country depends on the youths, the governor urged the corps members to develop common ties among themselves for peace and harmony will to reign supreme.
Stressing the importance of the NYSC scheme and the orientation given to corps members, he said: “A modern society requires a certain degree of preparation and orientation before the assumption of that leadership role.
The governor expressed his believe that the three weeks orientation course must have exposed the corps members to some pressing needs of the society.
He said the period offered opportunities for sober reflection and means of tackling the challenges confronting Nigeria as a nation.
The governor advised the corps members to be law-abiding, avoid late night outings and respect the cultural norms and values of their host communities so as not to offend the sensibilities of the people.
He, however, assured them that the government has put adequate security measures in place to ensure their safety throughout their stay in the Land of Honour State.
A total 1,784 young graduates were deployed to Ekiti State to observe their mandatory one-year national service.
