The finals stages of the 2013 Ekiti state Governor’s Cup Football competition has kicked off at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado Ekiti.
the Ado Local Government Area team defeated Ikole Local Government Team by 1 goal to nil while Ise/Orun LG walloped Efon LG by 2 goals to nothing.
The State Commissioner for Youths and sports, Mr. Kayode Olaosebikan who took the kick off of the opening match reiterated the commitment of the state Government to Sports development.
Stressing the resolve of government to boost participation of youths in grassroots sports, Mr. Olaosebikan lauded the efforts of organizers of the competition to actualize vision of the present administration.
The Commissioner noted that the competition was designed to help discover talents that could become star footballers that will lift the state in the field of soccer.
He enjoined participants at the football tournament to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship in order to achieve the objective of the
organizers of the programme.
Meanwhile, soccer fans had a taste of female soccer at the Oluyemi Kayode stadium where Nazarawa Amazon F-C defeated Balyesa Queens FC by a lone goal in one of the semi finals matches of the on-going female Federation cup competition.
