Ekiti State Government has said that the bulk of teachers that would be engaged in the ongoing recruitment exercise would be posted to the rural areas. Speaking while featuring in on NTA Ado Ekiti news and current affairs programme,
“In the Saddle”, the State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr. Kehinde Ojo said that the focus is more on the rural areas in order to boost development of the grassroots and decongest the urban areas in the state. According to him, priority would be given to subjects like English, mathematics, and core science subjects in the recruitment exercise, stressing that the state government would leave no stone unturned at maintaining a high standard of education in the state.
Elucidating on circumstances surrounding the recovery of laptops earlier distributed to students in the state, the Commissioner said that the gesture was to enable reconfiguration of the laptops to suit the purpose it was meant for. Mr. Ojo noted that some of the students had been using the laptop computers for functions they were not intended for and could be detrimental to their upbringing. He said that the template of the various subjects offered by the students would be installed on the laptops before they are returned to the students.
The Commissioner, who recalled that the state government commenced the payment of the 16% professional allowance to teachers since August 2013, assured that government would continue to give incentives such as housing and car loans among others to teachers in both primary and secondary schools in the state.
