Prominent leaders including renowned legal luminary and Founder Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti (ABUAD), Chief Afe Babalola, Governors of Edo and Osun States, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola as well as National Assembly members from Ekiti State, on Wednesday solicited support for Governor Kayode Fayemi to continue the “good works” which he started in the State three years ago.
The prominent Nigerians spoke in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State capital at a mega rally commemorating the third anniversary of the Dr Fayemi administration held at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium. Dr Fayemi was inaugurated as Governor of Ekiti State on October 16th, 2013.
Chief Babalola, who urged support for the Fayemi administration, recalled how he alongside other Ekiti indigenes fought for the creation of the State with the aim of making it the best in Nigeria.
He said whoever is at the helms of government and pursuing the vision of prosperity conceived by the founding fathers is his friend; adding that Fayemi who is “doing that must be supported”.
His words:”This is historic and I say congratulations to you for this historic event. For about two decades now, I, the Ewi and some others fought for the creation of Ekiti State. The idea was to develop the state and make it the best state in Nigeria, and for that purpose Ekiti state is my project. The project was designed to bring prosperity to Ekiti state and whoever is doing that for us is my friend, therefore this is my friend for that purpose. Every reasonable person, every patriotic person, every nationalist must support whoever is developing the state and he (Fayemi) is doing that. Congratulations once more”.
In his remarks, Governor Oshiomhole said Ekiti people are fortunate to have Fayemi as Governor; adding that with Fayemi in the saddle, “things are changing for good”.
Oshiomhole added that Fayemi has delivered on the mandate given him by the people especially with the Social Security Benefit Scheme for the elderly citizens, as well as his huge investment in education and human capital development.
“I have come here to join the great people of Ekiti to celebrate as they move out from the era of lamentations of poor infrastructure to an ear of infrastructure development. Kayode has shown that everything is possible. As we speak Ekiti is work in progress. It has moved from deficit to positive. If it is not broken, you can’t fix it. When we see what works, we associate with it,” the Edo Governor said.
Governor Aregbesola in his remarks opined that Fayemi has justified the confidence reposed in him by the people, even as he said that the Governor’s interest in next year’s gubernatorial election in the State is to consolidate on the development that he had started since 2010.
Also speaking at the event, the former Governor of the State, Otunba Niyi Adebayo said the transformations made by the present administration are visible and urged the people to give Fayemi their support to continue beyond 2014; saying that he has confidence in the ability of the Governor to deliver on his promises.
Members of the National Assembly representing the State also threw their weight behind the candidature of Fayemi for the forthcoming election.
Governor Fayemi, in his remarks at the event, thanked the people for the support given him to achieve the strides recorded by his administration in the last three years, saying that his administration rose to power through the people’s mandate and support and assured that he will not relent in vigorously pursuing the actualisation of his pact with Ekiti people.
The Governor also urged some aggrieved members of his party to return to the fold and join hands with his administration in developing the State even as he stated that members of the opposition parties are already defecting to the All Progressive Congress.
The Governor who thanked God for the peace being enjoyed in the state recalled that turbulence and instability hitherto experienced which led to emergence of six governors in seven years.
Fayemi said, “You have not seen anything yet, we are ready to bring everybody on board. This train of development is on the move and those who fail to join will be left behind at the bus stop.
“We must not relent in the struggle to make life more abundant for our people through the implementation of our eight-point agenda.
“The eight-point agenda is about empowering our people, insisting that we are your servants and not your masters to ensure that the development which has started and seen by everybody continues.
“I am not tired because there is more to come from the arsenal that has brought this development to Ekiti
