Ekiti State Government has disbursed about N11million as micro credit loans to women and cooperatives societies.
Disbursing the cheques in Ado Ekiti, the state Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi who spoke through the Commissioner for Special Duties, Asiwaju Apalara Wole Adewunmi explained that the gesture was part of efforts to alleviate poverty particularly as it affects women in the state.
Dr. Fayemi reiterated his determination to make poverty history in the state through various programmes and policies designed to ensure that Ekiti people live a dignifying life.
The Governor explained that the micro credit delivery system of the present dispensation would be disused thorough cooperative societies, artisan groups, farmers groups marked women association in order to ensure judicious use of the money and ensure payback as well as contribute to the society.
According to him the scheme could be as fraud proof as possible adding that it would spread across the state.
Earlier, the Commissioner for rural development and Community Empowerment, Chief Folusho Olabode who was represented by the Permanent secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Adesola Oke stressed that mentorship system was abolished in the agency due to its numerous deficiencies.
The Commissioner who emphasized that due process care now rigidly followed in processing loans, disbursement and monitoring towards ensuring that the loan gets to the intended beneficiaries with guaranteed payback.
