The Ekiti State Commissioner for Works and Transportation, Mr. Sola Adebayo has called on the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to fashion out ways of enhancing safety of lives of roads users plying state and federal roads in the state.
Speaking while declaring open the Zonal Retreat of Zone RS8 in Ado-Ekiti, Mr. Adebayo said most of the road accidents occur due to human errors, adding that road users should be properly enlightened on the traffic rules and regulations.
Adebayo who called for 24 -hour patrol of roads in the state by officers and men of the Commission stated that traffic on roads in the state roads has more than tripled in the last few years as most vehicles plying the ever busy Abuja-Lagos route now pass through the state because of the good condition of roads in the state.
He stressed that cross-fertilization of ideas and review of the activities will boost the success of officials of the Road Safety Corps.
The Commissioner implored participants at the retreat to look critically at issues that could change the bad attitude of road users in order to guarantee safety on the roads.
Earlier, the Zonal Commanding Officer RS8HQ, Mr. Kehinde Adeleye said that the purpose of the retreat is to brainstorm on how to reduce road crashes rate in the country.
Mr. Adeleye commended the activities of the Ekiti State Traffic Management Agency and called for more collaboration from the state Government.
He said the Zonal retreat is well attended by the senior officers from Kogi, Kwara and Ekiti state.
