Ekiti State Government has approved the release of a sum of about N800million to contractors handling some infrastructural projects in four local government areas in the state under the Millennium
Development Goals (MDGs).
The State Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mr. Tayo Ekundayo made this known in Ado Ekiti while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting.
Mr. Ekundayo who listed the benefiting LGAs as Ekiti South West, Efon, Ekiti West and Oye Local Government Areas, explained that the projects to be executed under the scheme include drilling of boreholes, construction of classrooms, renovation of health facilities as well as procurement of medical equipment and school furniture.
The Commissioner noted that projects were being co-founded by the Federal and State Governments along with the benefiting local governments.
Assuring that other local governments in the state will also benefit from the intervention, Ekundayo stressed that the intervention would boost the impact of the second item of the 8-point agenda of the
Fayemi led administration and accelerate development at the grassroots.
According to him, contractors who have been given two months to complete and deliver the projects, were carefully selected by a committee comprising professionals from relevant MDAs, MDGs benefiting
LGAs and costing experts from the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on MDGs.
He assured that the state government would as usual ensure that the projects are executed to international standard.
