The Chairman of the Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Professor Modupe Adelabu has charged members of SUBEB Independent Monitoring Team to assist the Board in rapidly transforming the Primary education system in the State. Professor Adelabu gave the charge at the one day workshop organized for members of the team held at the SUBEB hall in Ado.
The SUBEB Chairman said the Independent Monitoring Team was put in place to complement the efforts of the various institutional frameworks designed to supervise education across the State. Professor Adelabu who advised members of the team to see their jobs as a form of clinical supervision added that they were selected to assist, guide, identify the immediate needs of the teachers and not to see themselves as rivals to the Education Secretaries and other government institutions in-charge of such duties.
She commended the Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi for his magnanimity and passion for the development of the education sector. In her address at the workshop ,the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Dr. (Mrs) Eniola Ajayi described members of the team as potential neighborhood inspectors because of their proximity to the people at the grassroots. According to Dr. Ajayi ,“Feedback implementation is very important and more crucial than even supervision it self”. She urged the team to be sensitive to the nature and temperament of the parents, adding that they should be mindful of what they say or tell the parents, urging them not to violate the already laid down government principles.
Responding, the Coordinator of the team, Professor Suzan Ajibade commended the present Administration for appointing women into sensitive positions in the state promising that the team would not betray the confidence reposed in them.
