Ekiti State Government has described the statement attributed to a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Adedayo Adeyeye accusing the state governor of illegally deducting local government funds as mischievous, malicious, misleading as well as an attempt to cause disaffection among Ekiti people and smear the image of the state governor.
A statement from the office of the State Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mr. Tayo Ekundayo made available in Ado Ekiti noted that vituperations of Adeyeye is not only libellous but also seditious.
Mr. Ekundayo who recalled the recent judgement delivered by a High Court in Ado Ekiti that awarded a sum of N2billion against The Compass Newspaper and one Remi Koleosho in favour of Governor Kayode Fayemi over a similar issue, cautioned Adeyeye against getting himself into avoidable problems as government would not hesitate to challenge any attempt to embarrass the governor or the state government in a competent court of jurisdiction.
According to him, the Fayemi led administration is very tolerant and operates an all-inclusive governance, stressing that government however owes it a duty to the people to disallow any unreasonable attempt to create unwarranted fear among the people of the state as well as the growing number of tourists and investors who throng the state on daily basis.
The Commissioner wondered why Adeyeye continued to spread falsehood when he has the benefit of both the freedom of Information law and the domesticated FOIA emphasising that there no excuse to spreading falsehood especially in a state that was the first to domesticate the
FOl law.
Saying that he ordinarily would not have dignified what he called bunkum with a response, Ekundayo however stressed that for the avoidance of doubt and because of those that may take his silence for
conceding to the falsehood, he would advise the people should disregard the irresponsible outpour as a ranting of a power-hungry man.
He advised Adeyeye to look for ways to convince the people of his plans to improve the state, if he has any, as a governorship aspirant instead of casting unnecessary aspersions on a hardworking and articulated Governor that is doing everything to move the state to greater height.
