Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Mrs. Funmi Olayinka in a stern and unmistakable tone told contractors handling the 5 kilometre road projects in each of the sixteen local councils across the State to shape up to meet the deadline for delivery of the roads or shape out.

Speaking on Tuesday at a meeting with the State Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development, Chief Dayo Fadipe, permanent Secretary in her office, Mr. Ayodeji Ajayi , the contractors, as well as all the council engineers in her office, she said the State government was not prepared for any excuse for failure as it considers that as mere reasons for non performance.

Explaining that the government has done its part by paying the initial mobilization fee, Olayinka who said other tranches of payment would be based purely on certification of performance, added that participation of the contractors in subsequent jobs for the state will depend largely on how they handle the ongoing projects.

Olayinka said the present government in Ekiti was ready to terminate any contract and prosecute handlers for unsatisfactory jobs at any point in the execution of such jobs. She appealed to the contractors to key in to the developmental vision of the Governor, seeing themselves as stakeholders in the road to Ekiti recovery.

Emphasising that government is determined to hand over the roads to the people of the various local councils as at when due, before the beginning of real rainy season, the deputy governor disclosed that the dream of the Dr. Kayode Fayemi led administration is to do 5 kilometres of roads in each of the local government areas on annual basis.

Earlier in his opening remarks, Chief Fadipe said government will not hesitate to hand over any contractor who defaults in any project to the anti graft agency as it was ready to ensure that the people get value for their money.
