Ekiti Government, ICT Firm Sign MoU On Broadband

Ekiti State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with  ipNX limited, a Nigeria-based ICT firm, to establish a mechanism for the duo to plan cooperative maximization of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) potentials to better the lot of Ekiti State indigenes and improve governance.

Speaking at the event marking the agreement in Ado Ekiti, the State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi said the gesture is borne out of the commitment of the State Government in ensuring that the State is ICT-driven in all spheres, even as he described the MoU as a “welcome opportunity” that will bring about a new dawn on broadband and fibreoptic operation in the State since this will benefit Ekiti State University as well as private business owners who are interested in ICT.

Dr. Fayemi who noted that ipNX’s original limited engagement with the State Government has now been transformed into a wider partnership said the company would be playing a critical role in helping government realise its ICT objectives; expressing optimism that the company is well-placed to do the work given its professionalism and commitment.

He added that Ekiti can be the pilot state for the broadband plans of the Federal Government since the set goal is in tandem with FG’s plan, noting that his Special Adviser on Infrastructure and Public Utilities, Mr Kayode Jegede serves in the FG committee on broadband.

According to the Memorandum of Understanding, Ekiti State Government and ipNX seek to jointly explore and plan collaboration in the management of the State Government data centre, Fibre to the Home (FTTH) network, Public Wifi, Education and Health networks, Security Camera Network and Emergency call centre among others.

In his remarks, the Group Managing Director of the company, Mr Ejovi Aror said the company would be handling, in the first phase, the data center management services and optical fibre networks among others which “together provide a platform for cutting edge ICT services that address different sectors of the State’s economy”.

Aror added that in the second phase the company would be working with government on healthcare, education and security as the platform would also be extended to the private sector and residential markets on different high capacity broadband internet access and other services.
