The Ekiti State Mortgage Board was created by the Ekiti State Government by Ekiti State and Foreclosure Law, 2020 in May, 2020 with the sole aim of making home ownership accessible and affordable to interested persons in the state.
The Board believes that affordable housing provides citizens the opportunity to not only enjoy their fundamental human rights but also enables families to grow and make memories that last a lifetime in a home that belongs to them.
To be the leading authority in promoting accessible and affordable housing solutions while fostering sustainable communities and economic growth of the Land of Honour, Ekiti State, in line with the mantra of His Excellency, Governor Biodun Oyebanji led administration of keeping Ekiti working towards shared prosperity.
To provide innovative housing and mortgage solutions that empower individuals and communities to achieve their home ownership dreams with a view to building a better future. The Board is committed to ensuring fair and equal access to housing, promoting responsible lending practices, and enhancing housing affordability for all.
The Ekiti State Mortgage Board has the following Divisions:
(i) Administration and Supplies; and
(ii) Finance and Accounts.
The Special Adviser to His Excellency, the Governor on Housing and Mortgage Development, Dr. Gboyega Oloniyo is the Political Head of the Bureau.
(i) Creation of a conducive environment for accessible and affordable mortgages for the benefit of residents of the state;
(ii) The Board serves as an advisory body to His Excellency, the Governor on the funding, administration, and structure of the state mortgage finance program or policy for the benefit of the residents of the state;
(iii) Harmonization of mortgage scheme or policy which the state has and may put in place from time to time in connection with the making, processing, placing, registering, or administration of mortgages;
(iv) To implement and honour on behalf of the state government all obligations in any agreement made between the state and other parties with regards to any mortgage scheme for the provision of funds for land ownership or development of real estate in the state;
(iv) Formulation of housing policies and strategies in Ekiti State by making timely recommendations to the government on matters related to housing development, affordability, and accessibility;
(v) The Board conducts research and collects data on the housing market in Ekiti State for housing policies, and housing needs and develops strategies to address housing challenges;
(vi) Where applicable, the Board acts as an intermediary between the state, its residents, and mortgage brokers and lenders;
(vii) To ensure the effective management and operation of the Mortgage Registry; and
(viii) To advice the state government on the adoption of standards and policies under which mortgages should be provided.
- To collaborate with the Ekiti State Housing Corporation in the proposed construction of housing units in Ekiti State;
- To liaise with relevant Agencies in the acquisition of more hectares of land for the construction of more housing units;
- To collaborate with relevant government Agencies in the allocation of the completed housing units to interested Ekiti residents.
(i) The Bureau in partnership with the relevant Agency has facilitated the acquisition of 56 Hectares of land for Brook Assets and Resources Limited for the construction of affordable and accessible housing units that would benefit the residents by becoming house owners through a mortgage;
(ii) The Bureau has provided a conducive environment for Abiskolin Nigeria Limited, a construction giant for the construction of housing units in each Senatorial District of Ekiti State.
