As part of steps aimed at improving the conditions of service in the Ekiti State judiciary, the state governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi at the weekend presented forty (40) Ford cars to all magistrates in the State.

The Governor made the presentation in Ikogosi Ekiti during a workshop organised by the State Ministry of Justice for all magistrates in the State at the Ikogosi Warm Spring Resort.
While speaking on the workshop which is the first to be organised for the Magistrates since the creation of the state, Governor Fayemi said training is an effective way of changing attitudes and increasing personnel motivation.

He added that his administration supports a system of justice that shifts from rigid law and order towards one based on greater efficiency, professionalism and effectiveness; hence the importance placed on the magistracy in justice administration in the State.

The Governor  who stated that the security and safety of the citizenry is the priority of his administration, said it was necessary to strengthen the legal framework for dealing with crimes as well as support the judiciary without compromising its independence.

The State Executive Council, according to the Governor, has approved the administration of criminal justice bill and urged the State House of Assembly to support the speedy passage of the legislation.

Fayemi opined that the legislation will promote efficient administration of criminal justice in Ekiti State.

The Governor who hinted at the establishment of the State Judicial Institute said the institute will provide a sustainable framework for the continuous education of magistrates and other judicial officers.
He opined that the Institute is best suited to ensure that training programmes are designed on the basis of systematically identified training needs.

In his remarks, the Chief Magistrate Administrator and Chairman of the State’s chapter of the Magistrates Association of Nigeria, Prince Adesoji Adegboye said the workshop lays credence to the commitment of the Fayemi-led administration to the rule of law as well as capacity building for the drivers of the rule of law.

The gesture according to Adegboye will stimulate the Magistracy for better productivity as they will be better equipped to face the evolving challenges in the administration of criminal justice.
