Fayemi’s Aide Celebrates Water Day With School Children

In line with this year’s theme for the World Water Day Celebration “Water Cooperation”, a team from the Bureau of Infrastructure and Public Utilities led by the Special Adviser, Mr. Kayode Jegede paid an enlightenment visit to Iworoko High School in Iworoko-Ekiti.

During the visit, the team which comprised of the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Infrastructure, Mr. Foluso Daramola, the General Manager, Water Cooperation, Engineer Dipo Ojuola and Engineer Toba Arise of RUWASSA took their turns to deliver short lectures on the significance of the day to the teachers and students of the school.

Mr. Foluso Daramola traced the genesis of the celebration of World Water Day to the declaration by the United Nations (UN) in 1993 to set aside the 22nd of March every year for the celebration.
Mr. Daramola said to make the occasion worth celebration the younger generations must be carried along as active partners in information dissemination.

While admonishing children of school age to report burst-pipes in their neighbourhood to appropriate authorities, Mr. Folorunsho cautioned them against bathing in streams and drinking water from questionable sources.

In his contribution, the General Manager, Water Corporation, Engineer Dipo Ojuola said with the world population at about 7billion, it is necessary to conserve and preserve water sources so as to avoid water shortage.
In her remarks, the Principal of the School, Mrs. Oluyemisi Familoni appreciated the efforts of the team at enlightening the students and asked that a borehole be sunk in the school.

One of the students, Miss Uncle Janet described the lecture as a rare opportunity to learn from professionals and which she believed that knowledge gained will be utilised.
