MDG Release N100M for Pilot Projects in 3 Ekiti LGAs

The Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has announced that the office of the  Senior Special Assistant to the President on Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) OSSAA MDGS) Abuja has released a sum of N100 Million out of the N200 Million earmarked  for the 2011 MDG  projects in three local Government areas of the State.

Governor Fayemi  made this known during the opening ceremony of a training workshop on Effective   Implementation of MDGs Projects  held in Ado-Ekiti for officers in charge of MDGs related sectors at the Local Government level.

The Governior who spoke through his Chief of  Staff,  Mr. Yemi Adaramodu also disclosed that the state Government has paid its own contribution of 60 million representing 30% while each of the pilot local governments in the state had equally paid  matching fund of N40 million representing 20 % of the total fund.

Dr. Fayemi said that his administration would focus on combating poverty and hunger, improving school enrolment and facilitating access to health care and  fostering gender equality among others.

The Governor noted  that the programme will be extended to the remaining 661 Local Government areas across the Country including the remaining 13 Local Governments that are yet to benefit from the Scheme in the state.

He solicited  for a stronger partnership with all stakeholders including the media and the Civil Society for effective implementation of MDGs -projects in Ekiti State.

The Commissioner for Integration and Inter-Governmental Affairs/ Head of MDGs-CGS in Ekiti State, Mrs. Bunmi Dipo Salami has earlier said that the present administration is fully committed to the achievement of the MDGs  targets as this will facilitate the realization of the vision of a poverty-free society.

The Commissioner disclosed that the initiative of government is geared towards attaining the goals using the 8-Point Agenda as the multipurpose vehicle for development in the state.

Mrs Bunmi Dipo -Salami said that workshop was organized to give a new direction and proper orientation for officers anchoring MDGs projects at the Local Government Areas.

One of the participants, Mr. Gbenga Ologuntoye from Ido/Osi Local Government Area of the state said that the training workshop is timely and will give them full information on MDGs implementation in the various Local Government Areas.

He also commended the State Government for the workshop stressing that it should be made a continuous exercise to have a full index of the programme.
