Erelu Bisi Fayemi Admonishes LACA Officials

The Wife of Ekiti State Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi has charged the Local Government Caretaker Chairmen, LACA Officials and other relevant stakeholders to step up efforts at combating the HIV/AIDS scourge in the state.
Mrs. Fayemi gave the charge at the quarterly SACA/LACA meeting held in Ado.
The First Lady who was represented at the occasion by the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Fola- Richie Adewusi expressed displeasure over the slow pace of LACA activities across the state stressing that less then 20% of Ekti people know their HIV/AIDS status.
According to her, the State Government established Local Government Aids Control Agencies (LACAS) in an effort to effectively engage people at the grassroots to tackle HIV/AIDS in the state.
The Wife of the Governor who is also the Chairperson of Ekiti State AIDS Control Agency (EKSACA) stressed the commitment of Ekiti State Government to wage war against the disease adding that efforts had been made to provide the enabling environment for LACA Officials in order to overcome various challenges facing them.

She charged the participants to complement the efforts of the state government at reducing the HIV/AIDS prevalence in the state.
Responding, the State Co-ordinator  HIV/AID Control Action Manager Comrade Adeniyi Olugbenga who spoke on behalf of  other Managers enumerated some of the challenges facing LACA in discharging their duties to include; weak political  will lack of funds, and shortage of office accommodation among others.
Olugbenga called for more training of Health workers on basic facts about HIV/AIDS especially in handling pregnant women
