The year 2012 was full of activities – social events and governance issues – many of which have earned the State Government a pride of place in the federation. No doubt, the driver of these programmes, the Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, deserved the Governor of the Year 2011 which was conferred on him by The Leadership Newspaper.

Ekiti Gets N1 Billion Agric Loan
Better times are here for farmers in Ekiti State as the State Government has finally taken custody of the One Billion Naira Agric credit loan facilitated by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), through the First Bank of Nigeria Plc. It could be recalled that the state government had in December, 2011 signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the N1 Billion CBN Agric loan.

Indications emerged that Ire Burnt Brick Industry in Ire- Ekiti, Ekiti State which has been moribund for about two decades, would be revived to commence operation within the next eight months.

Ekiti State Governor, Dr.Kayode Fayemi, has said the creation of new digital media channels by his administration was intended to entrench probity, accountability and transparency in governance.

House Of Assembly Passes Bill On Social Security For The Elderly
The Ekiti State House of Assembly passed a bill for a law to provide welfare assistance in form of cash grants or in – kind assistance to elderly persons who are residents in Ekiti State.
The bill seeks to provide for a system of welfare assistance including free health care and payment for welfare grants to the elderly as a way to reduce old age poverty in our state.
Fayemi Signs Social Security Bill To Law As Beneficiaries Hits 20,000
It is recalled that the Ekiti State’s social security programme, which is the first in Nigeria and West Africa, was announced by the Governor on 1st October 2011. Payment of the N5,000 monthly stipends to the elderly citizens commenced in the sixteen local government areas of the state on 25th of the same month.
Fayemi Flags Off Distribution Of 33,000 Laptops To Ekiti Students And Teachers
The 11,000 laptops handed out at an impressive ceremony held at the African Church Comprehensive High School, Ikere-Ekiti, marked the first phase of distribution of a total 33,000 units of laptop computers to students and teachers under the administration’s e-School Project.
Ekiti Approves N19,332 Minimum Wage For Workers
Ekiti State Government declared its intention to commence the immediate implementation of new minimum wage for its workers on Grade Level 7 to 17. The state minimum wage is based on N19, 332 which is N1,332 more than the N18,000 passed into Law by the National Assembly.

Another 10,000 elderly citizens in Ekiti State benefited from the social security scheme introduced by the Fayemi – administration under which indigent senior citizens are paid a stipend of N5,000 per month.
The remains of Madam Dorcas Aina Fayemi, mother of Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi was laid to rest in Isan Ekiti, amidst calls for a change in parental values. Madam Fayemi died in April 15th, 2012 at the age of 83 years.

Fayemi Commissions Multi-Million Naira Ward, Ambulances
A multi-million naira Accident and Emergency ward, a laboratory and a male surgical ward were commissioned by Dr Kayode Fayemi at the State’s Teaching Hospital, Ado- Ekiti, with a promise to increase funding of health care services in the state.
Also commissioned were seven ambulances purchased for some secondary health facilities in the State. The ambulances were immediately handed over to the officials of the health facilities and the representatives of the communities.

Dr Kayode Fayemi, presented a budget proposal of N 93,616,830. 001 Billion for year 2013 to the State House of Assembly.
